Baptism is an incredibly important moment in every Believer’s faith journey. It is the public declaration of a person’s commitment to Jesus Christ. Baptism serves 2 key purposes:
Obedience:When we get baptized like our Lord did, we are submitting to his commands. It is also an act of faith on our part. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Confession: Water baptism is you publicly confessing your faith in the Jesus Christ and showing your commitment. It symbolizes Christ's burial and resurrection. Our entrance into the water during baptism identifies us with Christ's death, burial and resurrection from the dead. It is a crucial step after salvation and both acts are a crucial foundation to the Christian life. (Colossians 2:12-14 MSG)
At Bethel, we invite all new (and not so new) believers to be baptized. When we are immersed into the water during baptism, we identify ourselves with Jesus in his death and burial. When we are raised up out of the water, we identify ourselves with the Resurrection of Jesus and the hope of eternal life. Baptism also gives the rest of us an opportunity to celebrate with you and welcome you in the community of believers!
